Clinton, Ontario was established in 1831 and originally know as "The Corners". Today Clinton has a population of 3,200 and is one of the most agriculturally productive communities in Ontario.

Clinton has developed a reputation for its murals around town that depict the areas rich agricultural history. Clinton`s most famous icon is its giant radar screen in the downtown. This is a lasting reminder of the communities war contributions during the 1940`s. Clinton`s attractions include the largest and longest spring fair in Ontario. At the heart of Huron County Clinton is an ideal destination.

School on Wheels

The town of Clinton is proud to be a part of Canada`s heritage of education.

Situated within Sloman Memorial Park is the Ontario Department of Education`s School On Wheels.

Car #15089, which was an 80-foot dining car originally, is now admired by residents and visitors to Clinton. Designed to reach settlers throughout North Ontario`s wilderness, the school would travel throughout the interior providing education to both parents and children. In 1926, a total of 7 train car schools covered an area of 4500 miles, ranging from the border of Ontario and Manitoba to the outskirts of Sudbury.

Radar

Known as Canada`s "Home of Radar", Clinton provided facilities, education and training for more than 6500 men during the Second World War. The opportunity for young soldiers to learn radar skills away from a hostile environment proved to be a valuable factor for the allied forces` pursuit of British freedom.

Clinton`s proximity to the shores of Lake Huron resembled that of the south-east coast of England, making it an ideal and safe training ground for allied airmen. Up until 1971, the Canadian Forces Radar training centre was still in operation and to this day visible reminders still exist to make residents and visitors proud of Clinton`s role as technological educators.

Clinton Spring Fair

The Friday and first Saturday of June every year, Clinton celebrates agriculture with the Clinton Spring Fair.

We welcome exhibitors to our dairy, sheep, poultry and horse shows. A highlight of the fair, which draws people far and wide, is the Demolition Derby, which is presented on Friday night. This is an event to see.

The Clinton Spring Fair presents beautiful home made crafts that reflect the unique creativity of local artisans. The events include a Queen of the Fair competition, talent show, classic car show, and a midway.
